Carlos Slim Helu
Carlos Slim Helu was born on 28th January in 1940. he is a Mexican business man. According to Froobes in 2011 he is the richest person in the world. Slim is the chairman and chief executive of telecommunications companies Telmex and América Móvil and has extensive holdings in other Mexican companies as well as he has a business interests elsewhere in the world.
He and his siblings were taught business by their father. When he was 12 years old, he bought shares in a Mexican bank. He studied engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. There he also taught algebra and linear programming. In 1965 he incorporated
Inversora Bursátil. Then he bought Jarritos del Sur. He then married Soumaya Domit Gemayel (the name Carso derives from the first three letters of Carlo and the first two of Soumaya). They remained with each other until her death in the year 1999.
real estate, Construction and mining businesses were the focus of his early career. before 1972 he established
further seven businesses in these categories.
In 1990 he acted in concert with France Télécom and Southwestern Bell Corporation, to buy landline telephony company Telmex from the Mexican government.
In 1999 Slim expanded his business interests beyond Latin America. He set up Telmex USA.
